Do you have a son or daughter in the 8th or 9th grade? Here at Redeemer our mission/goal is:
- That each young person grow closer to Christ and begin “owning their faith” as a follower of Christ
- To hold up and support this unique God-given role and ministry that parents play in this pivotal time in the lives of their youth.
These two goals are at the center and core of what is called Redeemer’s confirmation ministry. Any parent of an 8th or 9th grade youth is asked to call one of Redeemer’s pastors to learn more about this special ministry with our 8th and 9th grade youth and their parents.
Here is a sketch of the basic components of the Confirmation Ministry here at Redeemer. Our youth of all ages, including 8th and 9th grades, meet on Sunday morning for study of God’s Word (often called Sunday school). Our youth in 8th and 9th grades also meet each Wednesdaynight during the school year to study God’s Word as it relates to a variety of life topics in both a large and small group setting. Parents work weekly with their youth in what is called Confirmation Homework which involves such things as reading an assigned Bible passage and sharing the meaning of God’s word at home or answering life questions and praying with their students. Parents also meet once a month on Wednesday nights with their youth under the leadership of Pastor John and the Confirmation ministry team.
Besides these “study” parts of Confirmation ministry, there are also "youth events", including a week-end retreat planned by Redeemer’s youth team. And finally, our youth in Confirmation are encouraged to serve the poor, one great opportunity for such serving is called Work Camp and another is a mission trip to Mexico.
